Plastic surgery is back on the rise with new high-growth industries in the plastic medicine industry, cosmetic surgery and body painting.
The plastic surgery industry was the fifth largest in the United States last year and the fourth largest in 2018, according to an industry analysis by the New York-based Institute for Justice.
The industry grew 8.2 percent in 2018 to $15,826.6 million, according the report.
The plastic medicine business grew 8 percent, and the body painting business grew 6.2%.
The growth in the industry mirrors the rising cost of plastic surgery.
According to a 2017 study by the Institute for Commerce and Economic Research, the cost of cosmetic procedures rose 27 percent from 2015 to 2020, from $1,838 to $1.946 per procedure.
In 2018, the industry saw a 24 percent increase in revenue, according a report by the Federal Trade Commission, which analyzed a variety of consumer goods.
Plastic surgery saw the highest growth in 2019 with $1 billion in revenues.
